Artists’ Statement
These photographs were created collaboratively using flares, steel wool lit on fire, and a slow shutter speed. The intent was to capture light and fire and the way it moves against the backdrop of our city at night.

Artists’ Bio
Mannie Avila and Stephen Lopez are photographers local to the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, TX. Both are recent graduates of Sunset High School. Mannie’s work has been featured in Hypernova Lit previously, as well as Stephen’s. Stephen has also had work published in Hypertext Magazine.
