Ambers and ashes
Dance in the shadows of the flames
Lighting up every person
With life
And a sparkle
Some flames are built for fear
Ready to demolish
Others are childlike
Built to spread light,
Not darkness
Campfires filled with joy
Songs and stories
Fed by the light
of the flames in the bonfire
If you look close enough
You can see a child
In those flames
Reaching up
Toward the dark, light bulb strewn sky
Surrounded by the reflection
Of it’s joy
In every person’s eyes
The flames feed joy for hours
Until
They begin to run out of happiness themselves.
They then bid farewell to their audience
Diminishing just before dawn
Resting for the nights to come,
When the sun replaces the moon
And, where there were once people,
There is now a campsite
Filled with critters feasting on
The remnants of the lively night before
